first_imgINDIANAPOLIS, Ind. — Two bills authored by State Sen. Jean Leising (R-Oldenburg) passed the Senate Committee on Education and Career Development.Senate Bill 86, which would require elementary schools to add cursive writing to their curriculum, passed by a 8-1 vote.Cursive writing was a curriculum requirement until 2012.Committee members also passed Senate Bill 87 by a vote of 7-3.The bill would require all public and nonpublic accredited schools in Indiana to use letter grades when evaluating students in third through 12th grades.Leising says that words on report cards such as mastered, progressing, and not mastered, are sometimes hard to understand, and an A to F grading scale would make it clear for parents to track their children’s  progress.SB 86 and SB 87 will now be considered by the full Senate.last_img read more
