Balete town wins Aklan ‘Higante Contest’

Since 1995, the “Higante Contest” ofthe Ati-Atihan Festival in Kalibo was being organized by the provincialgovernment through the Aklan Provincial Tourism Office.(With a report from Akean Forum/PN) BORACAY – The town of Balete in Aklanbested seven other entries for the “Higante Contest” of this year’s KaliboAti-Atihan Festival. The entries received subsidy worthP30,000 each from the provincial government.  Meanwhile, the entry of Nabas, Aklannamed “Inday Mambong” placed second with a prize of P40,000.  The towns of Kalibo, Numancia andTangalan also joined the “Higante” competition. The entry “Ro Ibajaynong Ati”represented the people’s advocacy to preserve the enchanting natural beauty ofIbajay and the love for nature.  The “Manaya nayang Ati” of Balete, Aklan bested seven other entries for the “Higante Contest” of this year’s Kalibo Ati-Atihan Festival. The town received a prize worth P45,000 for their winning entry. AKEAN FORUM The Manaya-nayang Ati was dressed in atraditional Filipiniana costume embroidered with blooming flowers. They also received certificates ofparticipation from Governor Florencio Miraflores and Vice Governor ReynaldoQuimpo during the awarding ceremony at the Kalibo Pastrana Park on Jan. 16. Balete received the grand prize ofP45,000 for its entry “Manaya nayang Ati” (Enchanting Ati). The “Higantes” were judged based ontheir creativity, audience impact and appeal, artistry, and relevance to thetheme “Ati in flowers, fruits and foliage.”last_img read more
