Caretaker charged for burning child with hot iron

first_imgA caretaker who allegedly burnt a six-year-old with a hot iron was on Friday hauled before the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts to answer to a charge of inflicting grievous bodily harm.Accused: Nicole RosemaryNicole Rosemary, of Lot 31 Bent Street, Werk-en-Rust, Georgetown, denied that between June 1 and June 14, 2018, she burnt the child after he was caught playing with the electric iron.The prosecution is contending that having caught the child playing with the iron, Rosemary allegedly took the iron and placed it on both of the child’s forearms, which resulted in him being burnt and scarring later appearing.The incident was reported after the child’s teacher saw the burns and reported the matter to the Child Care and Protection Agency (CCPA).In court on Friday, the prosecution objected to bail. The prosecution is contending that the woman admitted to the offence when she was arrested.However, Magistrate Leron Daly released the caretaker on $100,000 bail on the condition that she stay away from the child. She is also required to report to the Alberttown Police Station every Monday until the completion of the matter. Her travel document was also lodged.The matter is expected to continue on July 20, 2018.last_img
